Drip drip

The snow has almost gone now, but the pond in our garden is still frozen. I was taking pictures of the bubbles in the ice, and found this rowan berry, which must have fallen just as the surface of the water was about to freeze - you can see the splash, caught in the moment of the water freezing.

  1. Lovely! I took photos of the ice up on the moor, where the water was still running under it as a stream, with bubbles, and you could see where the bubbles had frozen in lovely crystalline patterns. Ice is very beautiful and rather mysterious, too, isn't it?

  2. It is, especially when there's movement within the ice as it melts. It makes a great sound too when a stream is running below ice. Even better - have you ever canoed through ice? As your boat presses forward, the ice shatters and makes the most amazing hissing and tinkling sound. It's quite magical, and worth the frozen hands to experience it!
